Officers received a report of someone screaming for help in the area of an old drive-in theater on Route 59, and quickly located a female victim who reported an assault by her boyfriend in the wooded area behind the drive-in.
The suspect was found in the surrounding area, and was charged with second-degree strangulation, second-degree assault and criminal contempt.
He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail and will appear in Ramapo Justice Court next month.
Along with the assault, police responded to 91 service calls on Saturday.
Those included two vehicle accidents on Walter Drive in Monsey and Shuart Road in Airmont, eight medical emergencies, 14 alarm activations, three fire calls and two other arrests, one for driving while ability impaired on drugs and another arrest warrant.
